While all but completely irrelevant at this point, I still feel the need to mention that Netscape (yes, that Netscape) has released a beta version of a new browser based on Firefox which inclides the ability to load the IE rendering engine instead of the embedded Gecko engine via ActiveX component. All I have to ask is why? Well, a few ‘why’s. Why is it named Netscape Browser Prototype 0.5.6 beta (according to the Beta News download page)? Didn’t they learn from Netscape 5? Why bother with the Firefox application framework if you’re directed only at the Windows platform? Why does AOL feel the need to continue to bother at all?
