Seems lots of folks are talking about podcasting again, and I have to say the personal radio show style broadcast that people are still raving about hasn’t won me over. But that doesn’t mean I’m not a big fan of what is going on – or of content that now is being made available.
For a few months now, while I was sampling countless other shows, there has been one feed that I have never unsubscribed to: ITConversations. For those tech minded folks this is a great source of recorded audio from events like Web 2.0, Gnomedex & Bloggercon and now feeding airings of Public Radio’s Tech Nation. As I mentioned to a friend last week, while I don’t listen to every session of each event I might download I wouldn’t have sought out most of this great content otherwise and its great fun waking up to find a conversation with William Gibson waiting for you in iTunes.
For the more media oriented types, and what is prompting this post of favorite podcasts, the NPR/WNYC Radio show On The Media has started offering a feed of their weekly radio show looking at the state of media – both new and old. Just as with ITConversations, I would normally not seek out the show either online or when it airs at 7am Saturday mornings, but having the show appear in my MP# player each week will allow me to listen regularly.
This TiVo like time shifting of content combined with the automation of the enclosure downloads (currently via NNW Beta) is the part of the podcasting equation that gets me excited.
Oh, and I also should not forget to mention, for those so politically inclined a number of Air America shows are also now available for download and listening at your leisure.
